August 6, 2026
Something has shifted in Westlake Village's dining map this year, and if you've driven past The Landing, the Shoppes, or Westlake Plaza in the last few months you've probably noticed it without naming it. A handful of restaurants opened between April and May, another one is queued for late fall, and the ownership stories behind them read less like a franchise rollout and more like a family reunion. Add a busy mid-August calendar at the Westlake Village Inn and Louie's, and the second half of summer is quietly the most interesting stretch of the year to eat, drink, and gather close to home.
The most visible change sits at 32131 Lindero Canyon Road, Suite 111, where Zin Bistro Americana closed at the end of December 2025 for a remodel. The space reopened this spring as Yār on the Lake, a Persian-Mediterranean communal dining concept from the same ownership family behind Zin. Yār means "friend" in Persian, and the restaurant is aiming to bring a Mediterranean communal dining experience to Westlake Village. Yār on the Lake announced they would be opening for dinner service on Tuesday, April 14th.
What makes the pivot worth watching is the ownership continuity. The family behind the restaurant has called Westlake Village home for over 40 years, with the lake as the backdrop to their most meaningful moments, and they describe Yār as rooted in Mediterranean communal dining and Persian hospitality. The waterfront view stays. The menu is what changed. If you had a standing Zin reservation, this is the successor address to know.
The second arrival is smaller in footprint but has been drawing steady morning traffic since spring. Toastique opened at 30760 Russell Ranch Road, Suite B, inside the Shoppes at Westlake Village. The gourmet toast, juice, and coffee bar opened its doors on Saturday, April 11 with a nutrition-packed menu of breakfast, lunch, and brunch options.
The ownership detail matters here. Toastique Westlake Village is owned and operated by friends and local residents Katherine and Leonid Tsap, and Alina and Dmytro Gaidukovych. The concept itself started in Washington, D.C., but this location is a locally-run franchise, not a corporate outpost. A few things worth knowing before you go:
The fall opening to circle is La Gita Kitchen and Focacceria, headed for the County Line Shopping Center. The concept will open in a 955-square-foot space at 4619 Lakeview Canyon Road, serving as a takeout and catering kitchen offering focaccia bread baked onsite along with sandwiches, salads, and charbroiled chicken. The former StretchCoast space is being converted, and the Westlake Village City Council approved off-site wine and beer sales in April.
The lineage is the interesting part. La Gita is co-owned by local resident Kyle Lopez, who worked at Stonefire Grill from 2008 to 2020 and served as its Chief Operating Officer, and his mother and co-owner Mary Harrigan, who co-founded Stonefire Grill in 2000. La Gita is targeting a late-2026 grand opening. Planned hours are 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, according to the city council agenda that greenlit the project.
If you have been in Westlake Village long enough to remember Stonefire's early years, the throughline is deliberate. This is not an operator borrowing local branding. This is the Stonefire family coming back with a smaller, focaccia-forward concept in the same neighborhood.
CAVA is the outlier in this year's group, and the contrast is what makes it interesting. The Mediterranean fast-casual chain opened May 15 at Westlake Plaza and Center. The restaurant sits at Westlake Boulevard and Agoura Road, just south of the 101 Freeway, and is open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. It is the only 2026 addition on this list that arrived from outside the community rather than from within it. If you have been to a CAVA elsewhere, you already know the format. What is worth noting locally is where it landed: the same plaza that has anchored the south side of the 101 for years is now the neighborhood's default fast-casual bowl stop.
A few adjustments to the mental map are worth logging:
The Westlake Village Inn campus is running one of its more active weeks of the year in the middle of the month. Worth booking or dropping in on:
The City of Westlake Village also runs its familiar summer series on the public side, including Saturday Concerts in the Park, TGIF Concerts, and Movie in the Park, with the current lineup including a Shrek screening and a Movie in the Courtyard showing of Casablanca. If you have out-of-town guests staying with you this month, the free public programming pairs well with a Stonehaus wine flight afterward.
Read the 2026 openings side by side and one thing stands out. The three concepts opening from inside the community share a common ownership profile.
Yār comes from a family that has lived on the lake for four decades. Toastique is run by two local couples. La Gita is a mother-and-son project from the family that built Stonefire Grill. Only CAVA arrived from elsewhere.
That is not the pattern in every California suburb right now, where national fast-casual has been doing most of the expansion. In Westlake Village this year, the operators betting on new leases are the ones who already live here. It is a small signal, but it tends to correlate with menus that hold up past the opening rush, staff who stay, and businesses that treat the community as long-term neighbors rather than a trade area on a spreadsheet.
For residents, the practical takeaway is simple. The Landing has its dinner anchor back. The Shoppes has a proper morning stop. Westlake Plaza has a weekday lunch bowl. County Line is queued for the fall. And the mid-August calendar at the Westlake Village Inn gives you three or four legitimate reasons to leave the house between the 8th and the 16th.
